Titanium dioxide prices continue to slip on the market in Europe

The first quarter of the year has brought another decline in titanium dioxide prices in Europe. Prices for simple TiO2 pigments, however, are said to be more susceptible to price reductions than rutile TiO2 grades used in decor paper production.

The downward slide in European titanium dioxide (TiO2) prices that started in the third and fourth quarters of 2018 has continued into the first quarter of 2019. Negotiations to settle on prices for first-quarter deliveries, some of which were not finalised until the first half of February, have also resulted in sizeable variations in pricing, depending on the titanium dioxide grade, sales segment and manufacturer in question.

Information available to date indicates that prices for the rutile pigments used to make decor paper have not fallen as much as prices for simple grades used for coatings and ink applications.
